Do you remember when you were a kid and you were asked to make “favorite” lists? Often my teachers would have us do this to help us get to know our peers better. I don’t know what it is about these lists, or really the concept of lists in general, but there is something I find really fun about it! Asking someone what their favorite _____ is, is always a great conversation starter because you automatically either have something in common or have a pro/con discussion in front of you. For some reason I also really like to tell people what my favorite things are. If I could print up a card with a list of my various favorite things and hand it out to people, I absolutely would. Technically, I know that I could do that now. It’s not a matter of can or can’t. It’s a matter of social appropriateness and normality and I don’t believe it would be appropriate or normal of me to hand out cards to people with a list of my favorite things on it. So, what’s the point of this whole favorites topic? It’s to talk about one of my favorite foods and a restaurant I discovered this past weekend.
On the list of my top 5 favorite foods, is cheese. I love cheese. I love cheese so much. I have been known to say, “I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t like.” This is the truth. All of my good friends love cheese too. No, I did not choose them as friends because of their affinity for cheese, but it doesn’t hurt either. My friend Blake, has said in the past that she doesn’t trust people who don’t like cheese. The other 5 of us, more or less agree with this statement. I believe that the only thing better than cheese is cheese with potatoes, since potatoes are also on my top 5 favorite foods list. The marriage of the two is glorious!
Friday night, May 29, 2015 my Parents and I were going to go out for dinner and after spending a bit of time researching restaurants, I found a place called Obica. Obica is a Mozzarella Bar. Yes. You read that correctly. Mozzarella. As in the cheese. There are two locations in New York, and we went to the one in the Flatiron District because it’s a bit more of a sit down restaurant than the Madison Avenue location. At Obica, they import the cheese twice a week from Italy so that it is as fresh as possible. There are also a few different types of Mozzarella’s to choose from so that you can taste multiple flavors. The menu, of course filled with cheese encompassing meals like pizza and pasta, also features fish, chicken, and meat. This would be a nice change for people who enjoy cheese, but are not cheese fanatics and don’t necessarily want cheese on each course. Though to me, that is just crazy!
After studying the menu profusely, my Parents and I decided to share a ball of Bufala Classica (Buffalo Mozzarella) and a ball of Burrata to start. I also ordered the Caprese Classica Salad which came with braided slices of Bufala Classica and Heirloom Tomatoes. Within the first half hour of eating, I was practically swimming in cheese! For my entree, I ordered a pizza, the Pomodoro Biologico e Mozzarella. This pizza came with chunks of Mozzarella di Bufala on top of fresh tomato sauce and basil. After 3 courses of cheese, you’d think I’d be “cheesed out” by then, but I wasn’t. I was full, don’t get me wrong, and was barely able to eat half of the pizza, but with cheese, it’s never enough! I found everything I ordered to be delicious and extremely fresh tasting. The colors of the food were very vibrant and appetizing. The only problem was that we were all so full, we couldn’t order dessert! The next time I go back to Obica, I think I will plan out my meals a little bit more carefully, so that I can eat as much cheese as possible and try as many cheese dishes on the menu as I can. This might take a few tries, but I’m willing to do what it takes. Delicious cheese at a delicious restaurant is worth it!
I love cheese too
