This Week’s Truthful Tuesday: Everything, Jellybean, Rainbow, Candy
“Jamie, what’s your favorite color?” If you ask me that today, I’d tell you it was Pink. If you asked me that when I was ten years old, I’d tell you it was Teal. If you asked me that when I was a toddler, I’d tell you Everything, Jellybean, Rainbow, Candy. Yes, you read that correctly. My favorite color at one time was called, “Everything, Jellybean, Rainbow, Candy.” Though science was never my best subject, I don’t recall ever talking about E.J.R.C when learning about Prisms and “ROY-G-BIV.” Yet, I found myself inclined to inform others that E.J.R.C was, in fact, not just a group of nouns I liked, but specifically a color.
Going back to my earliest memories, my favorite parts of life involved bright colors and food. I remember scenes from movies and TV shows based on the food! I used to like reading specific books because of the food pictures and descriptions. I think that this love of food and color is where E.J.R.C stemmed from and I can more or less make sense of the J.R.C components. It’s the “everything” part that is a bit odd. Being an introspective person, I can assume that I didn’t want to leave anything out when describing what I liked, so I added the word “everything” to make sure all of my favorites were included. My favorite what, I don’t know. Seems like a lot of over thinking for a toddler to be doing if you ask me!
I don’t really know at what age E.J.R.C lost it’s major appeal and was no longer my favorite color, but I never forgot about it! Truth be told, I’ve never even been a huge candy lover. I love candy stores and the colors of candy and the happiness that candy represents. However; I’d prefer to eat a chocolate bar over a gummy or sugary candy any day of the week. And I do like jellybeans, but I am selective about the flavors. I enjoy a nice container of jellybeans more for aesthetic purposes than anything else.
So, there you have it. A mediocre explanation of the history of my favorite color, “Everything, Jellybean, Rainbow, Candy.” The following is a list of some movies, books, and TV shows that I watched when I was young and the “food scenes” I specifically remember.
Wee Sing: Grandpa’s Magical Toys
The scene where they sing “do you know the muffin man?” and everyone gets a huge slice of muffin.
Disney: Beauty and the Beast
“Be our guest” song and dance.
Wee Sing: Big Rock Candy Mountain
The scene where everyone is having a picnic.
Pat Hutchins: Which Witch is Which?
The illustrations of the food at the witches birthday party
Disney: Sleeping Beauty
The scene where Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather bake Briar-Rose a birthday cake.
