I have a confession to make. I don’t eat raw cookie dough. It’s not because I don’t like it or I’ve never tried it, because I’m pretty sure somewhere between the ages of 8-10 I had it before. The reason I don’t eat raw cookie dough is because my Mom scared me as a little girl. She managed to convince me that I WILL get Salmonella and DIE from eating raw eggs. For the past two decades I have been a good little girl and stayed away from cookie dough. There hasn’t been any scraping of the bowl, licking the spoon, or sucking on my fingers. Just a lot of hand and dish washing with antibacterial soap. Do you want to know the worst part? I have never even tried cookie dough ice cream because I assumed the pieces of dough mixed in were made with raw eggs and would make me sick.
Recently, I’d say about 6 months ago, I discovered something life altering. Something so wonderful that my whole existence would never be the same. It’s called Cookie Dō. This is edible cookie dough, meant to be eaten out of the container. Though it can be cooked and make into cookies, it doesn’t have to be. You can actually take a spoon and eat the raw dough! And the best part is, is that you don’t have to worry about Salmonella killing you! Cookie Dō was started in New York City by a Missouri transplant, Kristen, who I am not embarrassed to call one of my heroes.
There are a lot of different flavors of cookie dough to choose from and you can order straight from the Cookie Dō website. Seasonally, a couple of flavors are introduced to join the standards, which is a great concept to get people to re-order and try new flavors. This past Monday, May 18, 2015 I went over to the Cookie Dō Headquarters to pick up the 4, 8oz containers that I had ordered. It took about 10 days for my cookie dough to be ready for pick up from the date I placed the order, which isn’t too bad considering they make each batch from scratch and to order.
I cannot tell you how excited I was to get my cookie dough! I had ordered 4 different flavors so that I could taste a variety; though being an A.P.E. doesn’t actually lend itself to too much flavor variety. I had to get a Signature Chocolate Chip. I also got a Chocolate Dream. This is chocolate flavored dough with dark chocolate chips and crushed Oreos mixed in. I ordered a Confetti which is basic chocolate chip cookie dough with the addition of white chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles. The forth flavor I got was the seasonal spring cake batter. The dough is cake batter flavored and mixed in are white chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and rainbow sprinkles.
After having a couple of spoonfuls of each flavor (I was extremely tentative at first, frozen by my anxiety and association of raw dough = death) I was in love. I LOVE COOKIE DOUGH! It’s so yummy! I can’t wait until I finish eating these so that I can order more. And maybe one day if I’m feeling rebellious, I’ll actually bake some cookies and taste the “real thing.”
