byThe weather is basically perfect outside today, April 18, 2015. It’s one of the first spring days where you don’t need a jacket and no one would look at you funny if you had sandals on. Well, maybe they would if you were like me and haven’t gotten a pedicure since February, but that’s another story. I have a plan for today and it’s to be outside. I’m going to walk downtown to the street fair that starts on Broadway and 14th street. Since I’ll be getting in all of this wonderful exercise, rewarding myself with some street fair treats is exactly what I should be doing! I get my sneakers on and grab a water bottle before hitting the pavement. I’m walking down Broadway and eventually get to Union Square. I don’t know if you know about Union Square on a Saturday, so for those of you who don’t let me explain. Union Square on a Saturday, especially a gorgeous Saturday like today, is like Times Square on New Years Eve. The Farmer’s Market is awesome if you don’t mind being herded along like cattle. I have a theory that if I were to stop walking at one corner of the Farmer’s Market, I’d eventually end up on the other side without walking, just purely by the amount of people forcing their way through, like a wave. Oh, so back to the walking. I manage to plow my way through Union Square unharmed and get to 14th street where the roads are now blocked off for the street fair. I start to think, “why am I voluntarily walking through hoards of people for the second time today? Are you trying to give yourself a heart attack?” After being stopped by someone asking me to take a survey about how I like my hair stylist, I felt that it was time to move on from this street fair activity. I remembered this place I have been wanting to try for a while called Snowdays is close by and decide to continue my adventure through the East Village to get some shaved cream. I’ve had shaved ice. I’ve had ice cream. I have never had shaved cream, but I know I’m going to like it! I get to Snowdays and am surprised the line isn’t too bad. Of course, I can’t see anything written on the giant chalkboards overhead without my glasses on, so I grab my phone and pull up the flavor and topping list. It is so overwhelming! I decide to play it safe with a rookie order and get Sweet Milk flavored shaved cream with Oreos and Strawberry Puree on top. LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING… shaved cream is amazing! As I’m eating it, the line is growing and people are now standing outside and down the block, literally. All I keep thinking about is, “when am I going to come back here?” and “what should I order next time?” and “I love Saturdays and Snowdays!”
